About Launching Place
Launching Place is located along the Warburton Highway between Woori Yallock and Yarra Junction.
It is believed that Launching Place is named after the spot on the Yarra River where the logs (freshly cut down in the valley) were floated down the river to be milled in Melbourne. That is, the logs were "launched" at this place along the Yarra River. This was prior to the construction of the Upper Yarra Reservoir.
The Warburton Trail is popular for riding and walking, and the area offers some stunning scenery. The residential area of Launching Place comprises houses in proximity to the school and pre-school on a mixture of standard size suburban blocks and larger blocks of half an acre or so, and then small and large acreage properties beyond. There is a small group of shops including a bakery, chemist, milk bar, and separately a greengrocer, hotel and general store, and a recreation reserve in Wickhams Road.
