About Alfredton
The Town
Named after Prince Alfred following his visit to the area in 1867, and originally part of Cardigan, Alfredton is now the most populated suburb in the Ballarat urban area and it is easy to see why. With Victoria Park to the east and the Prince of Wales Park bordering the suburb to the north, Alfredton itself offers an abundance of green and open spaces which is why it is such a popular destination for families (a huge 76.7% of Alfredton’s population are families).
Alfredton is also home to part of the Avenue of Honour, which is Australia’s longest war memorial running approximately 18km down the Western Highway.

What To Do
The Arch of Victory (Western Highway) kicks off the famed Avenue of Honour and is a must see when in Alfredton. The arch commemorates the Allied forces victory in World War I, and stands at a striking 17.5m high and almost 20m wide. The Alfredton Recreation Reserve (corner Cuthberts Road and Elaine Avenue) is an expansive and memorable park with a sporting oval and BMX track. Whether you’re a local going for an after work run, want to have a kick of footy on the weekend, or are after a peaceful space for a picnic, this reserve needs to be your first choice!
