About Jan Juc
Arguably one of the best suburbs to live in on the Barwon Surf Coast, Jan Juc is a sought after, peaceful and picturesque coastal town. Many people move to Jan Juc to get away from the hustle and bustle of the larger suburbs, and enjoy the surf coast lifestyle and it’s also a popular spot for retirees and holiday homes.
Jan Juc Location
Jan Juc is located right at the start of the Great Ocean Road, between Torquay and Bells Beach.
History of Jan Juc
Nearby Bellbrae was originally called Jan Juc but was renamed in 1923, so the Jan Juc Post Office, which opened on 25 January 1862, was in fact in Bellbrae. Housing estates almost link Jan Juc to adjacent Torquay, across the Spring Creek. Along with many other parts of the Surf Coast.
Jan Juc Sporting & Recreation
The Jan Juc beach lies between Rocky Point to the east and Bird Rock to the west, and is bounded by high cliffs, apart from the middle where an ephemeral creek enters Bass Strait through sand dunes. The beach is patrolled during summer months by the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club. Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club has a junior "Nippers" program. There’s also the Jan Juc Sharks cricket club and Jan Juc Boardriders is the local surfing club. The suburb has a range of parks and reserves and Torquay’s Golf Club is also located in the suburb of Jan Juc as well as the RACV Resort Torquay. Spring Creek is a popular place for boating and fishing.
