Part of the City of Whitehorse local government area. It is situated 17 kilometres east of Melbourne's CBD. 10,675 people were residing in Burwood East as of the 2021 census. Neighbouring suburbs include Mount Waverley, Burwood and Blackburn South.
With a handy tram line running through the middle of the suburb paired with a large bus network, nothing is far away. Burwood One is a good shopping centre for all your day-to-day needs and features a number of dining options and is also the home of Australia's first Kmart.
Being in the centre of some of Melbourne's top suburbs with wonderful neighbours like Glen Waverley, Blackburn, Chadstone, Ashwood and Box Hill to name a few, Burwood East is superbly and conveniently positioned to all facilities. Burwood One, Burwood Heights Shopping Center, and Burwood Bricks Shopping Center are just a few of the shopping centres that are located close to Burwood East. They all provide basic amenities including Coles, Aldi, pharmacies, health care facilities, cafés, restaurants, and a variety of speciality shops. The parks and reserves in Burwood East are among the greatest in all of Melbourne.
The East Burwood Reserve is a wonderful park with plenty to offer. It features two ovals, a tennis court, a cycling velodrome, and a nice track for joggers and walkers, making it the ideal haven for sports activists. It's a great place to unwind and take in the stunning sunset and city views since kids love the playground amenities, which also feature a tiny waterfall and a duck pond. Highbury Park, Ballyshannassy Park, Burwood East Line Reserve Park, as well as the perennially popular Gardiners Creek and Wattle Park, are more parks in the region.
