About Chadstone

Chadstone is a peaceful and friendly area with plenty of parks and open green spaces to relax but you can still enjoy all the excitement of having the largest shopping centre in Australia right on your doorstep.

Chadstone is a small suburb of Melbourne, with parts previously known as Chadstone being rezoned to be incorporated into Malvern East.

14 kilometres south-east of Melbourne's CBD, in the local government area of the City of Monash. 9,552 people were counted in Chadstone at the 2021 census. Neighbouring suburbs include Hughesdale, Mount Waverley and Holmesglen.

Several landmarks such as Chadstone Shopping Centre and the Chadstone campus of Holmesglen Institute of TAFE have retained their original names despite now being technically located just up the road in Malvern East.

Chadstone shopping complex has over 530 stores. Almost 70,000 visitors will arrive on the business trading days with around 20 million visitors a year. The complex opened in 1960 and was mainly a Myer outlet, cinema theatre and a 10-pin bowling alley. Now it has a 250-room hotel, 15,000 square metres of office space and parking for about 10,000 cars. All this makes Chadstone one of the biggest shopping complexes in the southern hemisphere.
