About Bacchus Marsh
Maddingley Park, a popular picnic spot for both inhabitants and visitors, is one of the city's main recreational grounds. The Nieuwesteeg Heritage Rose Garden, located near the park's south gates and across from the Bacchus Marsh train station, features mostly twentieth-century hybrid teas.
The steep, rough, and overgrown Lerderderg Gorge and the huge Wombat State Park that surrounds it, crisscrossed by four-wheel-drive trails, allow access to extensive bushwalking among old mining remnants and natural bush.
Pick up strawberries in the summer, pumpkins in the fall, and other seasonal vegetables from local orchards, market gardens, market stalls, and roadside sellers. Experience the delights of choosing your own strawberries, stone fruits, and berries by going into the fields yourself. The Strawberries and Cherries Festival kicks off the November harvesting season, then moves on to apples and pears before the season's finish with the March Harvest Festival.
