The suburb has been identified to have many threatened species of grasses growing in the area and is also in close proximity to the Organ Pipes National Park therefore it is protected by an environs overlay known as the ‘green wedge’.

There are only a handful of people who live here on the north side of the Calder Fwy, the ones who do live in spacious farmhouses on large blocks, very different to the tightly positioned housing estates on the south of the Fwy.

For avid golfers, it is also home to the Keilor Public Golf Course.

Anchored by Coles, K-mart, Aldi and 48 speciality stores, Keilor Central's Shopping Centre has a laid-back friendly atmosphere which offers a great range of convenience and speciality retailers.
