About Brighton

Brighton is a prestigious, coastal suburb approximately 11km south-east of Melbourne's central business district.

Brighton houses some of the wealthiest citizens in Melbourne with grand Victorian homes and modernist mansions with pools and tennis courts. You’ll also find some lovely Edwardian homes and other period houses, as well as new, modern townhouses, apartments and striking architecture along the beach.

Brighton is also well known for its Dendy Street Beach with its 82 colourful beach boxes. Brighton is facilitated by dual shopping strips of Bay Street and Church Street, both dense with restaurants, boutiques and cinemas. Beach Road is a popular cycling route, with the Bay Trail off-road walking/cycling tracks also following the coastline.

The suburb is serviced by the Gardenvale, North Brighton, Middle Brighton, and Brighton Beach railway stations on the Sandringham line. Tram Route 64 from Melbourne University services the eastern extremities of the suburb, while there are also a range of bus services, which run through the Melbourne CBD. Several major arterial roads run near or through Brighton making travel easy.

Secondary schools within Brighton includes Brighton Grammar School, Brighton Secondary College, Firbank Girls' Grammar School, Haileybury's Castlefield Campus, St Leonard's College, Xavier College's Kostka Hall junior campus, and Star of the Sea College.

A favourite off-leash area among Bayside dog owners, this patch of beach between Elwood and Middle Brighton Baths is the perfect combination of surf, sand and pure, unadulterated delight for your doggie. Exploring opportunities include climbing over sand dunes, smelling shrubs and running up a frenzy in the water. The dog owner doesn't lose out either — it's a lovely stroll along the marina and you get a very nice view of the CBD skyline from a distance.
