Although that makes it the quietest auction weekend in Melbourne since January, it does actually show a 20% lift in auction numbers compared to the same weekend last year!

The end of the finals also typically marks the start of the spring selling season. For those planning a sale before the year’s end, the news is positive. Buyers seem to be out in stronger numbers, and many are intent to compete and buy before the expected drop-in interest rates and the associated likely lift in property prices.

Interest rates in Europe and the US have already dropped and locally, some fixed rates are also being marked down. Interestingly, there was also a notable jump in the Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence result this last week. The second consecutive rise in the index sees Consumer Confidence at the highest level since January 2023.
